Summit on Puerto Rican Education to be Held at Osceola Campus

Valencia’s Osceola Campus will host the Summit on Puerto Rican Affairs’ education forum on Wednesday, July 16, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Building 4, room 105.

Guest speakers include Osceola County Commissioner John Quinones, Kissimmee city commissioner Wanda Rentas and Juan Eugenio Hernandez Mayoral, who is director of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration.

A panel will discuss how students can get a college education without incurring crippling student-loan debt, the need for professional and vocation options in high school and beyond, plus the special challenges facing students with limited English skills.

The panelists include: state Sen. Darren Soto; Randy Hanna, chancellor of the the Florida College System; Julio Fuentes, president of the Florida State Hispanic Chamber; Melba Luciano, superintendent of Osceola County schools; Rick Roach, member of the Orange County School Board; and Kathleen Plinske, president of Valencia’s Osceola Campus.
