Governor Rick Scott has appointed Lucas Boyce of Orlando, Daisy Lopez-Cid of Kissimmee and Bruce Carlson of Celebration to the Valencia College District Board of Trustees.
Boyce, 34, is director of business development and government affairs for the Orlando Magic. He received degrees from the University of Central Missouri and Rollins College. He fills a vacant seat.
Lopez-Cid, 40, owns a real-estate agency and is president-elect of the Osceola Association of Realtors. She succeeds Jo Quittschreiber, whose term expired last year.
Carlson, 67, owns a real-estate agency and received a doctorate from Purdue University. His seat is a new one for the college’s board. Prior to his appointment, there were five trustees from Orange County and three from Osceola County. The addition of a fourth trustee from Osceola is related to population growth and U.S. Census figures. State law says that when a community college serves two counties, the board will add an additional trustee (or trustees) when the smaller county reaches a certain population, relative to the larger county.
Boyce and Carlson are appointed for terms ending May 31, 2015. Lopez-Sid’s term will end on May 31, 2016.
Valencia’s trustees are appointed by the governor to direct the college’s policies. Other members are Maria Grulich, Lewis Oliver III, Jerry Buchanan, Lori Kifer Johnson, Guillermo Hansen and Fernando Perez.
