Irma Update: Valencia College to Reopen Friday; Atlas & Blackboard Now Functioning

Valencia College has reopened for classes, as of Friday, Sept 15, at 6 a.m.

Valencia’s website, along with Atlas, Blackboard and Canvas, is now functioning.
If you have questions about assignments and classes, please contact your professors through Blackboard or Atlas.

Valencia’s bookstores will be open normal hours on Friday, Sept. 15. On East and West campuses, the stores will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Osceola Campus, the bookstore will be open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The stores on Lake Nona and Winter Park campuses will open at 9 a.m. and close at 1 p.m.  On Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 18 and 19, the East and West campus stores will be open 7:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m.; Osceola Campus store will be open 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and the stores at Lake Nona and Winter Park campuses will be open 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m.

The bookstores have extended the 100 percent refund for returned textbooks by 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19. The campus stores will also waive the restocking fee for students who ordered books online but did not pick them up by Friday, Sept. 8. Students must pick up the books by 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 19.

Attention new/incoming Valencia students: If you were scheduled to attend orientation on one of the days the college was closed, please know that all cancelled orientations will be rescheduled. You will receive a call from the orientation team, but you can also sign into Atlas and monitor the new orientation channel to sign up for a new date when new orientation dates are posted next week.

For students who want to apply to the concurrent nursing program (ASN to BSN) with UCF, the deadline has been extended to Sept. 20. The new deadline for applications to the advanced track nursing program is Sept. 18.

The graduation deadline will also be extended to Sept. 22.

The “change of major” deadline has been extended to Sept. 22.

Applications to Valencia’s respiratory care program may be extended to Sept. 18*

*Extension granted under special circumstances. Please call 407-5823-1288. Applications may be turned in via mail or at any campus. $15 application fee for mailed apps may be remitted later).Drop deadline has not changed.

The last date for dropping a class was Sept. 5. The drop deadline has not changed.

College officials will provide more information on this site — as well as on the college’s social media channels (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) — as more details become available.

Valencia College officials have not made a decision yet about closing on Wednesday, Sept. 13., but expect to know more on Monday about when the campus will reopen.​

Students with specific questions about academic due dates should reach out to their professors or faculty members. The college is encouraging understanding and flexibility due to the extreme circumstances.

Because of Hurricane Irma and the potential danger to students and staff, Valencia College will remain closed through Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017. All classes and events are canceled, including online courses.

Students are advised to monitor local news, the Valencia College website, www.valenciacollege.edu, or follow the college’s social media accounts including FacebookTwitter and Instagram for closing and re-opening information.

After the storm, Valencia’s security and grounds teams will determine when the college can re-open, based on the availability of power and conditions on Valencia’s campuses. College officials hope to make a decision by late Monday or early Tuesday.

Orlando — Due to the potential impact of Hurricane Irma, all Valencia College campuses will close starting Friday, Sept. 8, through Monday, Sept. 11.  All classes and events are cancelled, including online courses. All non-essential employees are being asked to stay home.

Valencia officials will make a decision on Monday, Sept. 11, as to the status of Valencia campuses reopening on Tuesday.
