Valencia Theater to Perform Critically Acclaimed ‘Metamorphoses’

Thursday, March 26, 2015

Orlando, FL – The Valencia College Theater will present Mary Zimmerman’s critically-acclaimed play, “METAMORPHOSES,” in the college’s Black Box Theater April 3 through April 12.

In this brilliant mix of storytelling, movement, music and mythology, “Metamorphoses” blends the ancient and the contemporary, the timeless and the immediate. The tales unfold in an elemental landscape of waterfalls and ponds, flowing water and transformation.

The performance, written and originally directed by Mary Zimmerman, artistic associate of the Goodman Theatre in Chicago and member of the Lookingglass Theatre Company, will be directed by John DiDonna, program chair and artistic director of Valencia’s Theater Program, with set and water environment designed by former Valencia professor Michael Shugg, lighting by Kristin Abel, live cello accompaniment by Jean Marie Glazer, sound design by Les Caulfield and costume design by Virginia McKinney.

Performances will be held April 3 through April 12 and will be staged in the Black Box Theater, located in Building 3 on Valencia’s East Campus. These include a special Monday night performance, a talk back with the cast and director after the performance on Friday, April 10, and a special sign-language-interpreted performance on Saturday evening, April 11.

General admission tickets cost $12. Senior citizens, Valencia faculty, staff and students may purchase tickets for $10. Tickets can be purchased online at www.valenciacollege.edu/arts.
