Valencia’s Experiment with Big Data Featured in NPR Report

Valencia College is on the cutting edge of a new experiment in higher education — using “big data” or predictive analytics to help students succeed in college.

It’s a funky blend of using data to provide a personalized approach to students who are struggling in school. National Public Radio reporter Eric Westervelt visited Valencia last fall and interviewed Valencia’s Kurt Ewen, English professor and Faculty Senate president Neal Phillips and students about the project.

His report on colleges’ use of big data aired in October and again on Dec. 21, 2016.
