College to Exhibit Unique Sculpture Gallery by Helaine Schneider

In January, Valencia College invites local artist Helaine Schneider to show a unique exhibit at the college’s School of Arts and Entertainment on East Campus. Entitled “Everyone’s Talking, No One is Listening,” this collection of sculpture and installations explores the nature of human connection, specifically the importance of empathy and open communication. It will be on display in the Anita S. Wooten Gallery from Jan. 17 through March 8, 2019.

Commenting on the source of Schneider’s artistry, gallery curator Camilo Velasquez notes her “power of observation, her intuitive and sometimes poetic approach to uncovering reality.”

“Even though Helaine’s work examines reality, it is not realistic – it’s humanistic in its nature,” says Velazquez.  In addition to traditional three-dimensional sculptures which intend to capture the personalities of subjects, “Everybody’s Talking…” will also include installations accompanied by sound recordings of her subjects and sources of inspiration. Schneider chose to incorporate first-person monologues that communicate free thought, delivered without fear of judgement.

The exhibit will open with a reception on Thursday evening, Jan. 17, in the Anita S. Wooten Gallery, which is located in the atrium of building 3. The gallery is free and open to the public Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for the duration of the show. Valencia College will be closed on Jan. 21, in observance of Martin Luther King Day.
