Grammy-Nominated Virtuoso to Perform at Valencia College

Tuesday, January 8, 2019

Clarice Assad, a Brazilian-American musician, composer, performer and music educator, will perform at Valencia College for the 2018-2019 Humanities Speaker Series. Assad is a Grammy-nominated virtuoso who plays piano, violin, and sings in a wide variety of vocal styles ranging from Baroque chamber music to French chanson to jazz and scat.

In addition to drawing inspiration from a variety of cultures and genres, Assad writes music in the rich musical tradition of her own homeland, Brazil. On Feb. 6, she will give a master class to Valencia College music students of the East Campus, and on the evening of Feb. 7, she will take the stage of the campus’s performing arts center for a free show open to the public.

Assad will be one of three world-class musicians to visit the college for a humanities speaker series in the first week of February. Argentinian music duo Rosa Incaica and Italian classical pianist Francesco Attesti will also perform on East Campus. Since the 1990s, the mission of this series has been to introduce the important thinkers, writers and performers of today to students and the Central Florida community. It is supported by funding from Valencia College’s student development office and the Valencia Foundation.
