Peace and Justice Institute at Valencia Celebrates Global Peace Week

Tuesday, September 6, 2022

Orlando, FL – Each September, the Peace and Justice Institute (PJI) at Valencia College celebrates International Day of Peace, followed by Global Peace Week festivities and events, including peace education workshops, daily meditation practices, guest speakers, and free film screenings in partnership with the Global Peace Film Festival.

On Sept. 21, PJI will kick off its Global Peace Week celebration by partnering with the Global Peace Film Festival to participate in the United Nations’ International Peace Day. The mission of “Peace Day” is to have at least one non-violent, cease-fire day throughout the world. This year’s U.N. Peace Day celebration will be held at the Winter Park Public Library, where PJI will screen the film, “Mission: JOY – Finding Happiness in Troubled Times.” The free film screening begins at 6 p.m., followed by the creation of a human peace sign at 8 p.m.

On Sept. 26, PJI will launch Global Peace Week, offering a variety of thought-provoking workshops, teaching the lessons of resilience, empathy, conflict transformation, allyship, healthy communication and more.

Events will be held both virtually and in-person. All events are free and open to the public. For the full schedule of events, partnering organizations, and workshop facilitators, visit the Global Peace Week webpage at
