PJI to Co-Host Community Conference on Healing from Adverse Childhood Experiences

Orlando, FL – On April 3, the Early Learning Coalition of Orange County, the Florida Department of Health-Orange County, and the Peace and Justice Institute of Valencia College will host a one-day conference on the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) on health and well-being.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Vincent Felitti, the former director of Kaiser Permanente’s Department of Preventive Medicine and co-principal investigator of the original CDC-Kaiser Permanente study on adverse childhood experiences.

The seminar – which is open to members of the community – is titled “Creating a Resilient Community: From Trauma to Healing.” In addition to the keynote address by Felitti, there will be a panel featuring best practices, and facilitated dialogue to discuss how to improve community wellness through the integration of ACEs science and trauma-informed practices across sectors.

The discussion will include action steps for the Central Florida community.

Among those invited to attend are members of the medical, first responder, judicial, criminal justice, education, civic, public, and local non-profits sectors.
