Valencia Announces Series of Free Concerts to Celebrate 50th Year

Orlando, FL – As part of Valencia College’s 50th anniversary celebration, the college’s music department will hold a series of three guest recitals, which are free and open to the public.

The 50th Anniversary Guest Recital Series kicks off on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 4 p.m. with a free piano concert presented by the Blakemore Duo. Pianists Ryan and Lydia Blakemore will perform works by Antonio Vivaldi, Camille Saint-Saens, Astor Piazzolla and Dave Brubeck.

On Wed., March 29, at 1 p.m., soprano Aleksandra Vargas, accompanied by pianist Vladimir Khokhlov will perform Russian romantic songs, including songs by Sergei Rachmaninoff and Mikhail Glinka. Vargas has performed numerous operatic roles with the Orlando Opera Company and St. Petersburg Opera and, in  2016, she was named the winner Russian Grand Voice Miami.

And on Wed., April 12, at 1 p.m. tenor Ron Brendel, accompanied by pianist Ryan Pagels, will perform works from opera and art song repertoire. Brendel has performed with opera companies throughout the United States.

All of the concerts will be held in Building 3, Room 126 on Valencia’s East Campus, which is located at 701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando, FL.
