Teaching English as a Second Language

Dr. James May holds the Jessie and Eugene Drey Endowment of the English-Speaking Union/Central Florida Branch Endowed Chair in English and Humanities. James would like to learn more about how to use corpora and share what he learns with teachers and students. He will develop Web-based vocabulary training assignments, including key vocabulary and screen casted video instruction that can be shared through WebCT and Valencia’s language labs. He will perform corpus analysis using texts from the five most common courses that students take after their developmental track to identify key developmental vocabulary for the courses. He intends to present his findings and materials development locally, statewide and at a national conference.
