Valencia College Theater to Open 2018-2019 Season with ‘Big Fish’

Thursday, October 18, 2018

Orlando, FL – Valencia College Theater will open its season with “Big Fish,” a musical theater production written by John August with music and lyrics provided by Andrew Lippa. The musical, which first debuted in 2013, is based on the 1998 novel by Daniel Wallace and the 2003 film adaptation by Tim Burton.

“Big Fish” explores the “larger-than-life” tales of main character Edward Bloom – extraordinary accounts involving mermaids, giants, witches and the circus. As Bloom spins his fantastical yarns, we discover just what is real in the world of “Big Fish.”

“I doubt Broadway has ever seen a prettier, more sensuously kinetic musical than Susan Stroman’s adaptation of ‘Big Fish,’” said Bloomberg writer Jeremy Gerard, referring to the musical’s 2013 Broadway debut. “It’s enchanting, especially once it slows down a bit to catch its breath.”

Professor Julia Gagne will be directing Valencia’s production with support from choreographer Eric Yow and music director Tim Hanes.

The show has reserved seating, and some haze effects will be used. The play will be performed in Valencia College’s Performing Arts Center, which is located on the college’s East Campus.

General admission tickets cost $15. Senior citizens, Valencia faculty, staff, students and alumni may purchase tickets for $12. Tickets can be purchased online at www.valenciacollege.edu/arts. (Save $2 per ticket by purchasing online with the promo code VALENCIAWEB.)
