Valencia College to Begin Awarding Emergency Grants from CARES Act

Valencia College has opened applications for emergency aid grants provided through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, or CARES Act. In May, the college received $27.6 million in funding from the federal CARES Act. Of that, at least $13.8 million will be used to provide financial support to eligible students who incurred expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the coronavirus. The college will use the remaining funds to pay for other expenses due to COVID-19.

To be eligible for Valencia’s first round of CARES Act funding, students must be enrolled in an associate or bachelor’s degree program in the Spring 2020 semester, or in the Summer 2020 semester in classes that started on May 4. They must have also submitted their federal financial aid application (FAFSA) for the 2019-2020 academic year. Other eligibility requirements can be found here.

Information on how to apply will be provided to eligible students in an email that goes out on June 1.

The college will distribute additional CARES Act awards for eligible spring and summer term students starting July 6.

Degree-seeking students who don’t qualify for a CARES Act grant but have expenses related to the coronavirus may be eligible for assistance through the Valencia Support Fund.
