Valencia College to Launch Four New Degrees in Fall 2018

ORLANDO – To help students meet the changing needs of the job market, Valencia College is launching four new degree programs this fall semester in the fields of energy management, nursing, social media and musical theater.

Classes for the new term begin on Aug. 27. Students who are interested in enrolling are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. For more information on admission, please visit https://net1.valenciacollege.edu/future-students/

To meet the growing demand for technicians who can operate today’s smart buildings and reduce energy usage, Valencia is starting a new, two-year degree in energy controls management on the West Campus this fall.

The first to be developed in Florida, Valencia College’s new Energy Management and Controls Technology degree was designed in consultation with major regional employers, who are trying to fill open positions in the energy management field. Valencia College has partnered with employers such as Siemens, Automated Logic, Trane and Honeywell, each of whom are committed to hiring Valencia students for internships and hiring the program’s graduates.

Valencia is also launching a new bachelor’s degree in nursing this fall. Designed to help fill the growing need for nurses with bachelor’s degrees, this online program is aimed at nurses who already have an Associate in Science degree in nursing and are working in the field. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. For more information, please visit an upcoming health sciences information session.

On Valencia’s East Campus, instructors will launch the new A.S. Degree in New Media Communications with a specialization in Integrated Social Media Strategy. The program will prepare students to work as social media strategists, new media coordinators, social media content developers, and serve in a variety of entry-level media communication roles in the creative, marketing, journalism and communication industries. Students will be given theoretical and classroom experience which closely parallels on-the-job activities in the social media industry.

Also on East Campus, Valencia’s arts and entertainment faculty members have created an Associate in Arts pre-major in musical theater – a two-year degree program designed for the student who wants to transfer to the University of Central Florida to complete a bachelor’s degree in musical theater. Students will take required classes in acting, dance and voice.
