Valencia College Trustees to Consider Lab Fee Changes for 2020-21

Orlando – At Valencia College’s Board of Trustees meeting scheduled for May 27, the board will discuss proposed changes in student lab fees for the 2020-2021 academic year.  In accordance with state statute, all Florida College institutions must notify the public of any increases or additions to fees or tuition.

Lab fees do not cover all of the costs associated with lab courses; Valencia College subsidizes a significant amount of the overall cost of offering lab courses.

For the 2020-21 academic year, the college will recommend some decreases in the existing lab fees for many of next year’s courses. Please note that lab fees do not apply to online courses.

Summary of Proposed Changes to Lab Fees for the 2020-21 Academic Year
Of the 690 courses with associated lab fees reviewed:

  • 193 courses are decreasing the amount of the lab fee from the amount listed in the current college catalog
  • 26 courses are either new or have revised curriculum, necessitating the establishment of a lab fee for those courses
  • 385 courses are increasing the amount of the lab fee from the amount listed in the current college catalog
  • 86 courses will have no recommended change to the lab fee from the amount listed in the current college catalog

If approved by the board, the recommended lab fee schedule will be effective beginning in the fall 2020 term. For a complete listing of the proposed fee changes, please visit https://valenciacollege.edu/about/budget/documents/proposed-lab-fees-2020-2021.pdf.
