Valencia Offers Free Help For Students Filling Out FAFSA

Thursday, October 29, 2020

For many students, college is out of reach without financial aid. But to be eligible for financial aid — including most loans, scholarships and grants — you must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
To help students and parents fill out the applications, Valencia College is offering free help filling out the FAFSA from now through Nov. 12.

Help will be available in both English and Spanish.

Each Tuesday evening through Nov. 10, Daniel Barkowitz, assistant vice president of financial aid services for Valencia College, will hold an online session to explain the FAFSA, and address questions about FAFSA. Those sessions start at 6 p.m.

Want individual help? Every Wednesday and Thursday from now through Nov. 12, the college’s financial aid advisors will be available to answer questions (through Zoom, an online video platform) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

More information about the online workshop is available at https://valenciacollege.edu/finaid/fafsafrenzy.php

These workshops – which will be held online — are open to both first-time applicants (including high school seniors) and students who are reapplying for next year (fall 2021). Students who have never filed a FAFSA, but are interested in aid for classes beginning in January 2021 are also encouraged to apply.

Valencia College participates in most federal, state and local financial aid programs. During the 2019-20 school year, Valencia awarded more than $157 million in financial aid to students. Approximately 46 percent of Valencia students receive financial aid.

Can’t attend one of our online sessions? Watch this pre-recorded webinar, in which the head of Valencia’s financial aid department walks you through the process of filling out the FAFSA, step by step.
