Summer Dance Concert at Valencia Streaming Online July 30-31, 2021

Valencia College will host its annual Valencia Dance Summer Repertory Concert online nightly on July 30 and 31, 2021.

The concert, which will run approximately 75 minutes, will showcase the work of high school students who participated in the Valencia Summer Dance Institute, as well as Valencia College Associate in Arts (A.A.) in Dance Performance degree pathway majors.

The Valencia Summer Dance Institute is a four-week program that provides low-cost instruction to high school students from Central Florida. Participating students are given the opportunity to work with college and guest instructors.

Choreographers for Valencia Summer Dance Institute dancers include: Lesley Brasseux Rodgers, artistic director, Valencia Dance Theatre and Valencia dance faculty; Kathy Follensbee, dance director at Dr. Phillips High School, Valencia dance faculty; Anna Langford, Valencia Summer Dance Institute and A.A. in Dance Performance degree pathway major alumna; and Abigail Ramos, A.A. in Dance Performance degree pathway major.

Choreographers for the Valencia dance majors include: Jeanne Travers, dance professor at the University of South Florida; Eric Yow, artistic director of Yow Dance, an Orlando-based modern dance company and Central Florida Community Arts director of dance; Jessica Smith, A.A. in Dance Performance alumna and current Valencia dance faculty; Emily Cordell, A.A. in Dance Performance alumna and former Valencia dance faculty member; John Parks, dance professor at the University of South Florida, Alexander Jones, artistic director of projectALCHEMY and dance faculty at University of Tampa and Florida Southern College; and Lesley Brasseux Rodgers, artistic director, Valencia Theatre and Valencia dance faculty.

This year, we will be presenting the annual Summer Repertory Concert online. It will be pre-recorded and shared on Valencia’s website (www.valenciacollege.edu/arts) for a limited time, from 4 p.m. – 11:59 p.m. on July 30 and 31.

Admission is free, but donations to the Valencia College Department of Dance will be accepted.
