Valencia will sponsor a job fair in April as part of the Florida TRADE Consortium’s initiative to put 1,000 students to work in advanced manufacturing jobs over the next year.
The Florida Manufacturing Career Fair will be held on April 22 at CareerSource Central Florida in Orlando and on April 23 at the Lake Square Mall in Leesburg. Florida trade students, graduates, veterans and pre-screened applicants are invited to attend the job fair from 1-2 p.m. From 2-4 p.m., the fair is open to the general public.
The fair will offer job seekers the chance to meet area manufacturers and discover career options. Similar job fairs will take place across the state as part of the Florida TRADE Consortium’s Drive to 1,000 campaign, which seeks to place 1,000 students in advanced manufacturing jobs by April 1, 2016. Valencia, Career Source Central Florida, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, and the Manufacturer’s Association of Florida’s MAF Center for Advanced Manufacturing Excellence have joined Florida TRADE in the Drive to 1000 campaign.
“Manufacturers in Florida are growing and hiring,” said Nancy Stephens, executive director, Manufacturers Association of Florida. “They want employees looking for meaningful careers. Today’s manufacturing is high skill and high wage. Those wages circulate through the economy improving the quality of life for all citizens.”
Valencia’s Advanced Manufacturing program trains workers for high-tech manufacturing jobs while helping employers get that critical pipeline of skilled labor. The six-month program features classes in robotics, programmable logic and electromechanical technology. Last October, Valencia won a $2.5 federal grant to greatly expand its program, with plans for new certifications and college-level technical certificates, and training in areas including mechatronics, MSSC Certified Production Technician, MSSC Certified Logistics Certification, assembly, advanced welding technology, and quality and inspection specialist.
About 20 Valencia students, most of them recent graduates of the Advanced Manufacturing program, will attend the job fair.
CareerSource Central Florida is located at 4360 East Colonial Drive in Orlando. The Lake Square Mall is located at 10401 US-441 in Leesburg.
