The Valencia District Board of Trustees approved a new policy on Oct. 25, 2017 allowing the use of non-motorized vehicles on campus property. Vehicles now welcome on campus include bicycles, skateboards, roller blades and scooters. Hoverboards remain prohibited on campus.
Faculty, staff and students taking advantage of the new non-motorized policy are asked to travel the campus in a courteous, responsible and safe manner, and to yield the right of way to pedestrians and disabled persons.
The policy approved by the board states that Valencia College “encourages non-motorized methods of travel as non-polluting forms of transportation and healthful recreation.” The policy change is another step in the effort to reduce transportation emissions, which represents more than half of Valencia’s carbon footprint. Other initiatives in this ongoing effort include electric vehicle charging stations on East and West Campus and free bus rides for students and employees, traveling any route in the LYNX system.
