Valencia College invites movie fans to celebrate 28 years of student filmmaking when the film production technology program hosts the 28th Annual Film Celebration on March 4.
The one-day event will be both a showcase of student films and a fundraiser for the film program. The celebration will give current and former students the chance to watch short films produced by current Valencia College film students, while learning about the technical aspects of filmmaking through short workshops held between screenings.
This year’s theme is “A Night Among the Stars,” orchestrated by the advanced film students.
Throughout the day, there will be two different screenings of “Shorts”: Short Blocks 1 at 3 p.m. and Short Blocks 2 at 7 p.m.
Each screening has a virtual ticket option for people who are unable to attend in-person.
Each screening will be followed by a lively Q&A with the student director of each film in the Short Block, during which the audience can ask questions.
Students will also lead film workshops where participants can learn camera and microphone operations to capture quality sound. This will take place from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The short blocks will be showing in a state-of-the-art 3-D sound system, located in Valencia College’s Film Screening Theater in the School of Arts & Entertainment Building.
Valencia College is 1 of 3 Dolby Atmos theaters in Central Florida.
Development, pre-production, principal photography, and post-production of the films were all based out of Valencia and made possible by Valencia faculty, staff and students.
Doors open at 2:30 p.m. at the School of Arts & Entertainment, Film Screening Theater on Valencia College’s East Campus, 701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando.
Tickets are $15 for general admission; and $10 for non-Valencia College students with a current ID, as well as senior citizens and members of the military. Valencia College students with an ID will be admitted free.
The virtual screenings per Short Block are $5.
