On the evening of April 17, Valencia, police and sheriff’s department officials gathered to honor the recent graduates from the Criminal Justice Institute basic recruit program, while remembering the fallen officers who once attended the program.
The officers who were remembered included Orange County Deputy Sebastian Diana, who died in 2011 after a lengthy illness he caught while trying to save an infant’s life, and Deputy Brandon Coates, who was gunned down during a traffic stop.
Among the officers, family members and dignitaries attending the event were Chief Paul Rooney, Orlando Police Department, and Sheriff Jerry Demings, Orange County Sheriff’s Office. The event was held at Valencia College’s Criminal Justice Institute on Valencia College Lane in Orlando.
