Valencia College Theatre Presents Innovative, Immersive ‘Hamlet’

Orlando — Valencia College Theatre continues to explore and push artistic boundaries with a new, immersive production of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” – one in which all the world’s not a stage, but a prison.

The tale may be well known: The story of Denmark’s young Prince Hamlet avenging his father’s untimely death at the hands of his uncle, but in the hands of Valencia’s creative team, audiences will discover and experience new facets of this time-honored tale.

In this reimagined production, directed by Bobbie Bell, Denmark is under strict rule, with the entire population under constant surveillance. No one is safe. Any suspicion of opposition is dealt with swiftly and brutally. As the rightful heir to the throne, Hamlet is – by his very existence – a threat to the state. And his fate hangs in the balance.

Audiences will view the scenes play out from a prison of their own.

The play opens on Feb. 14 and will run for seven performances in Valencia College’s Black Box Theater. The Black Box Theater is located in Building 3 on Valencia’s East Campus, 701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando.

Tickets are $10 for Valencia students, staff and senior citizens and $15 for the public. Tickets may be purchased online at https://valenciacollege.edu/campaign/arts/ . Call the box office at 407-582-2900 for questions or for information about group sales.
