Orlando, FL – The Valencia College Theater will present the Tony Award-winning rock musical, “Spring Awakening,” in the college’s Performing Arts Center Black Box Theater Oct. 21 through Oct. 30.
Based on Frank Wedekind’s groundbreaking and controversial play (written in 1906, it was once banned in Germany), Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik’s award-winning rock musical follows a group of adolescents and their sexual awakening, youth revolt, and self-discovery. Relying on each other for guidance, this group of young men and women struggle along the often-rocky path of adolescence, discovering their bodies and their minds at the same time. A celebration of youth and rebellion, “Spring Awakening” infuses their story with morality, sexuality, and rock and roll.
The 2006 Broadway production won eight Tony Awards, including Tonys for best musical, direction, book, score and featured actor.
Valencia’s production is directed by Julia Gagne, choreographed by Eric Yow and musical direction is provided by Tim Hanes.
NOTE: This play contains mature language, themes, and content.
Performances will be held Oct. 21-24 and Oct. 28-30 in the Performing Arts Center on Valencia’s East Campus. These include two Sunday matinee performances at 2 p.m.
General admission tickets cost $15. Senior citizens, Valencia faculty, staff and students may purchase tickets for $12. Tickets may be purchased online at www.valenciacollege.edu/arts.
