Orlando, FL – As we dive into summer, Valencia College Theater is turning up the heat with Neil LaBute’s short plays, “BASH: Latterday Plays,” starting on June 6.
“BASH: Latterday Plays” is composed of three raw, emotionally complex and ultimately devastating works, “Iphigenia in Orem,” “A Gaggle of Saints” and “Medea Redux,” which bring theatergoers to the deepest levels of human experience. Immersive and visceral, BASH will pull the audience into these stories and surprise them with the brutal turns they take.
Written by acclaimed playwright and filmmaker Neil LaBute, the three short plays debuted Off-Broadway at the Douglas Fairbanks Theatre in 1999, and has since been revived multiple times on London’s West End. In 2000, Showtime aired “BASH,” featuring the original off-Broadway cast, including Calista Flockhart and Paul Rudd.
“BASH is informed with an earnest, probing moralism as fierce as that of Nathaniel Hawthorne,” wrote critic Ben Brantley in the New York Times. “That’s what Mr. LaBute does best, finding the acid in the blandest substances.”
Valencia College’s production will feature an ensemble cast of Valencia College students with special guest appearances from local professional actors.
(Note: This play is rated for ages 17 and up.)
BASH is presented through special arrangement with Broadway Play Publishing Inc, NYCwww.broadwayplaypublishing.com.
The play opens on Friday, June 6, with additional performances on June 7, 9, 12, 13, and 14 at 7:30 p.m. A matinee performance will be held on June 8 at 2 p.m.
The play will be staged at Valencia’s Black Box Theater, on the college’s East Campus, located at 701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando.
