Valencia to Host Forum on Cyber Security and Digital Forensics on April 9

Valencia Community College is hosting a forum titled “High-Tech Security in the Digital Age: A Forum on Cyber Security and Digital Forensics” on Friday, April 9 at its West CampusThe event targets business and government leaders and others interested in national safety and business security issues.  

Senior administrators with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will address the group, including Pete Fonash, Chief Technology Officer with the Office of Cybersecurity and Communications; Richard Smith, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) with the Transportation Security Administration; and John Daly, Federal Security Director with the Transportation Security Administration. Also speaking are Lew Temares, Vice President of Information Technology/CIO for the University of Miami; Bob Rohrlack, President/CEO of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce; and Richard Crotty, Orange County Mayor.

College leaders will also announce details of a new Valencia program to train specialists in this growing field, with curriculum developed through a grant from the National Science Foundation 

The event is part of Valencia’s Economic Development Forum Series, spearheaded by Gaby Hawat, Special Assistant to the President for Strategic Initiatives and Executive Dean for Economic Development. The series is one of the many ways the college fulfills its commitment to align its programs with workforce needs.

It is presented in partnership with the Florida High Tech Corridor, The University of Central Florida, Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission, Orange County, Orlando, Inc. (Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce), Osceola County Economic Development Department, Transportation Security Agency, USF Polytechnic, and Workforce Central Florida, among others.
