Romance and its many complications, a massive prison revolt’s effects on a big city and the real-life story of a spiritual icon are among the subjects of cinematic works to be presented at the 4th Valencia Brazilian Film Festival March 31-April 8.
The festival is free and open to the public. All films are in Portuguese with English subtitles. Visiting filmmakers Malu de Martino and Elisa Tolomelli will moderate.
Richard Sansone, a professor of Portuguese at Valencia, organized the festival as a way to highlight the wide scope of Brazilian cinema, provide his students with chances to hear spoken Portuguese and offer the community at large an engaging cultural experience.
The festival is produced in partnership with the Central Florida Brazilian American Chamber of Commerce.
All screenings begin at 7 p.m., with receptions planned for each at 6:30 p.m.
Thursday, March 31: “Now Boarding” (“Embarque Imediato”), a romantic comedy, West Campus, 1800 S. Kirkman Road, Orlando, Building 3, Room 111.
Monday, April 4: “Chico Xavier,” the story of a famous medium whose spiritual legacy lives on, Osceola Campus, 1800 Denn John Lane, Kissimmee, Building 2 Auditorium.
Tuesday, April 5: “Time of Fear” (“Salve Geral”), based on a 2006 prison revolt that paralyzed Sao Paolo, West Campus, same venue.
Thursday, April 7: “The Invisible Woman” (“A Mulher Invisivel”), a “luscious romantic comedy” starring Selton Mello, East Campus, 701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando, Building 3, Room 124.
Friday, April 8: “So Hard to Forget” (“Como Esquecer”), a tale of “love, loss and redemption,” West Campus, same venue.
