Valencia Celebrates 29 Years of Student Filmmaking with Festival

ORLANDO – Valencia College invites movie fans to celebrate 29 years of student filmmaking when the Valencia College film production technology program holds its 29th Annual Film Celebration on Saturday, March 2.

The one-day event – which is a showcase of student and alumni film projects — gives movie buffs, as well as current and former students, the chance to watch short films produced by current and former Valencia College film students.

“Valencia College offers students the unique opportunity to collaborate on professional productions,” said Eric Fleming, chair of Valencia’s film production technology program. “The Film Celebration is also a wonderful chance to honor the work of previous classes and support indie filmmaking in Central Florida.”

The film blocks feature a variety of genres, including documentary, drama, action, comedy and music videos. Please note that some shorts in Block 2 may contain mature content that’s not suitable for children. Please review the website for additional details.

After each screening, there will be a lively Q&A with the filmmakers. Audience members can also participate in film workshops — and learn some of the technical aspects of filmmaking in short workshops held between screenings.

This year’s celebration is inspired by “The Fast & The Furious” and other heist films.

The college’s film students were working with industry professionals creating a pilot for a series while simultaneously preparing for the Film Celebration – so the final details of the event came together fast and furious! Audience members can get the “fast & furious” experience through photo ops with fast and furious style vehicles.

Alumni of the Valencia College film program are invited to attend a special pre-show reception at 5 p.m. in the School of Arts & Entertainment soundstage (room 100).

Doors open at 1:30 p.m. at the School of Arts & Entertainment on Valencia College’s East Campus, 701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando.

Tickets for each block are: $15 for general admission; $10 for Valencia College faculty and staff, students from other colleges or universities, senior citizens and members of the military. Valencia College students with an ID will be admitted free. For more information and to purchase tickets please visit vcfilmcelebration.com
