Update: Erika Weakens, So It’s Back to School Next Week

Noon Sunday Update:

With Erika downgraded from a tropical storm, Valencia College will be open next week and fall classes will start as planned. The college will continue to monitor all tropical weather activity including Erika and alert you of any major updates.

Original Story:

With Tropical Storm Erika threatening Florida, Valencia College is closely monitoring the storm to determine whether it will be necessary to cancel classes or close campuses.

Fall classes are currently scheduled to begin on Monday, Aug. 31. Any decision to cancel will be communicated on the Valencia website at http://www.valenciacollege.edu, on Facebook and Twitter, and through the college’s emergency notification system, Valencia Alerts.

To ensure that students receive timely alerts, they are encouraged to update their contact information in Atlas under “Personal Information: Update my Address,” https://atlas.valenciacollege.edu/ Please note that while this is a free service, wireless carriers may charge a fee to receive text messages.

Students are asked to follow weather updates and take safety precautions as advised by local authorities. For example, take this opportunity to secure your home, put gas in your car, have spending cash on hand, and stock up on water and non-perishable food, and if possible, get a battery-powered weather radio.
