Get ready for the magic, as Valencia College Theater presents the Tony Award-winning play, “Peter and the Starcatcher” for seven shows, starting March 31.

The adventure upends the century-old story of how a lonely orphan comes to be The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up (a.k.a. Peter Pan). Characters in this wildly theatrical production include marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes.

The play is based on the 2004 novel, “Peter and the Starcatchers” by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, and has been adapted for the stage by Rick Elice, with music by Wayne Barker. The play provides a backstory for the characters of Peter Pan, Mrs. Darling, Tinker Bell and Hook, and serves as a prequel to J. M. Barrie’s “Peter and Wendy.”

Originally produced on Broadway by Nancy Nagel Gibbs, Greg Schaffert, Eva Price, Tom Smedes, and Disney Theatrical Productions, “Peter and the Starcatcher” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.

Valencia’s production will feature a cast of Valencia students, alumni, and professionals from the Central Florida community.

The musical opens on Friday, March 31, with additional performances on April 1-3 and April 6-8. Curtain is at 7:30 p.m. every night except for Sunday, April 2, when the curtain rises at 2 p.m. ASL interpretation will occur on Friday, April 7.

The play will be staged at Valencia’s Black Box Theater, on the college’s East Campus, located at 701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando.
