Valencia College Theater to Present “Angels in America: Part 2”

After a critically acclaimed 2022 production of Tony Kushner’s “Angels in America, Part One: Millennium Approaches,” Valencia College will stage the second part, “Angels in America, Part Two: Perestroika” at the college’s Black Box Theater on Feb. 17-25.

Valencia College’s production of Part One won high praise from Orlando Sentinel theater critic Matt Palm. Valencia’s production earned six nominations for Palm’s year-end critic’s awards for the best in local theater – and won two awards: best director of a drama to Jeremy Seghers, and best featured actor in a drama to Sarah Lockhard.

“With a cast of mostly young students, Jeremy Seghers found something fresh-eyed in a masterwork of American theater. In February, he guided his actors to find the beauty of ‘Angels in America’ playwright Tony Kushner’s text without declaiming it full of self-importance, thereby grounding a fantastical play in reality,” Palm said.

The original cast will return for Part Two: Perestroika, which expands its focus to encompass global themes as the AIDS crisis worsens. Relationships fall apart and unexpected bonds form. By the play’s end, the characters have all experienced perestroika (which translates to “restructuring”) in their lives.

Tickets are $12 general admission, $10 for students, faculty, staff, alumni and senior citizens. To buy tickets, please visit valenciacollege.edu/arts or call the box office at 407-582-2900.  Seating is limited. Advance purchase is advised.

Valencia’s Black Box Theater is located in Building 3 on Valencia’s East Campus, which is at 701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando.

Note: The play contains adult themes and language and a moment of brief nudity. Children under 8 will not be admitted.
