Valencia receives $1 million for students who fled 2017 hurricanes

Valencia College has received $1,220,638 in federal funds to support Puerto Rican and U.S. Virgin Island students who came to Valencia in the wake of Hurricanes Maria and Irma. The grant was one of several the U.S. Department of Education awarded to Central Florida schools, as part of an effort led by U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy. More than 600 displaced students–the majority from Puerto Rico–have applied at Valencia and 350 have enrolled in classes since fall 2017, with 18 set to graduate this spring and summer.
